Charity Work

About our AWCCS Chosen Charity: Friends of
the Earth Scotland

Since 1978, Friends of the Earth Scotland has been promoting its vision of a world wh ere everyone can enjoy a healthy environment and a fair share of the Earth’s resources. They have become Scotland’s leading environmental campaigning organisation and have worked to create new laws and regulations aimed at tackling climate change, pollution and other vital environmental issues that we face every day.

Visit their website at www.foe.scot and learn more about what they do, sign up to their mailing list and get involved! You can even become a member for as little as £3 per month.

This year, we hope to do more for our chosen charity than ever before. We
will begin to incorporate more fundraising aspects into our events and
hopefully plan a fundraiser or two. We will be placing donation buckets at
some events but donations will not be a requirement. If you have any ideas for fundraisers or any concerns, please contact Charity Chair, Alanna Kibiloski.

Our Philanthropic History

Donate Here

Charitable giving has always been a focus of the Club's activities. The AWCCS contributes to a variety of local charities in Scotland.   Our Fundraising includes Live and Silent Auctions at our signature events on Thanksgiving and 4th of July celebrations, handbag and jewelry parties where we bring items to auction off to our members, and we provide baskets as raffle prizes at some other member events.  Club members also participate in local clean-up projects as well as many of our members individually volunteer to help local women and children in many different ways.

In the early years surplus funds were donated annually to a selected cause, usually to do with women and children and usually focused in Scotland or Edinburgh. In the more recent years, we have held various Fundraising Events in order to collect funds for our charity.

Particular projects were also selected for fundraising events--the earliest was to aid the purchase of a minibus for hospital transport. In subsequent years the Club has raised funds for the following charities:

  1. Disablement Income Group http://www.self-help.org.uk/search/?entryid54=94785&p=2&char=D
  2. the Margaret Blackwood Foundation, http://blackwoodgroup.org.uk/

Also, Race for Life is a registered charity; as such, an additional £300 was in given by Gift Aid. The total contribution from the AWCCS for Race for Life was over £1500.

Our latest Charity selected was Edinburgh Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, (Now the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre) http://www.ewrasac.org.uk/

“A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our silent auction at Thanksgiving this year! Together, we raised a whopping £300 for the Edinburgh Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, our current Charity. Participation was fabulous with a total of 10 donated baskets; not to mention all of the food that was donated to the canned food drive. So thank you all.”  (Tess McNatt, Charity Chair for 2014-2015)

If you would like to contribute to our Charities, we have provided an opportunity for you to do so through PayPal.  We very much appreciate your help in our endeavour to help our women and children here in Scotland.
